Cincinnati Ohio Luthier – Koa and Maple 1959 Les Paul Standard Replica

A personal I built for myself, this guitar is based on a set of recreated 1959 Gibson Les Paul blueprints with several physical modifications to my own personal playing style. Note: I do not and will not sell Gibson replicas, I can restore original pieces or create scratch build instruments with my own headstock design.

Body: The body is made from several exotic woods that I happened to have in the shop at the time. The top is flamed maple – carved by hand (no CNC here) and hand sprayed tobacco-sunburst finish. The back is a combination of Hawiian Koa wood as well as a stripe of Pheasant wood in between for visual interest. As well as looking cool, my Koa on hand was not think enough and this helped give the full size of a LP. The body is fully chambered to relieve the weight of the hardwood as well as giving fantastic tone.

Neck: The neck and headstock ate made of 3 pieces of birds-eye maple glued with parallel grain. This neck is super-sturdy and has a bright sound you rarely get from a mahogany neck, combined with the Koa body this LP has a unique brightness and crunch sound. Headstock overlay is an original Gibson part. The fretboard had inlays already installed although all leveling, radius and fretwork was done in my shop.

Electronics: Guitar features Seymour Duncan Alnico Pro II’s just like Slash uses in his guitars – when played though a Marshall Amp you feel the AFD power. Controls are standard Volume/Volume & Tone/Tone but both of the volumes feature coil-tap switches, effectively making this sound like a Fender Strat or Telecaster.
